The EZ-USB CX3 is the industry's most flexible USB 3.0 camera controller, and is available for any image processor that supports the Mobile Industrial Processor Interface (MIPI) Class 2 Camera Serial Port (CSI-2) version 1.01. Add USB 3.0 connectivity. The CX3 is ideal for high resolution (HD), high speed image capture applications. The CX3 is capable of transmitting 1080p with a frame rate of 30 frames per second or 720p video with a frame rate of 60fps without compression. The CX3 solution is supported by the Denebola reference design kit from Cypress partner e-con Systems. The kit features a production-ready reference design board that accelerates the market for HD camera products. The kit leverages CX3's SuperSpeed USB performance to seamlessly process large image files and deliver HD video without compression to avoid loss of image quality.
Dr. Lennart Wietzke, founder of Ratrix GmbH, said: "The EZ-USB CX3 USB 3.0 controller offers the much-needed performance of the R42 camera. The CX3's SuperSpeed USB 3.0 performance gives the R42 an unparalleled 3-D depth of field. Its unique EZ -USB flexibility and Cypress's powerful technical support shorten our design cycle."
Mark Fu, Senior Director of Cypress's USB 3.0 Business Unit, said: "Cypress has been the leader in USB technology since 1996. We have unrivalled low-speed and high-speed USB solutions. With the addition of the CX3 camera controller Among our unique FX3, FX3S and HX3, we now have the industry's most powerful SuperSpeed USB product line. We are very excited about the customer feedback on CX3, this time CX3 won the Raytrix breakthrough R42 3 -D design is a good example."
He added: "The powerful design suite from e-con Systems has extended the CX3's design support capabilities. This suite makes the design process smoother and makes it easier for customers to bring top quality HD cameras to the market."
Ashok Babu, president of e-con Systems, said: "We have worked closely with Cypress to launch a new Denebola reference design kit around the CX3 camera controller. The USB 3.0 camera market with machine vision, industry, science, medical and consumer The needs of the product continue to grow, and the CX3 caters to the needs of these applications. With Cypress's detailed information, designers can use our suite to efficiently create plug-and-play on mainstream operating systems. A camera that complies with the USB Video Class protocol standard."
About the Denebola Reference Design Kit
Developed by Cypress's partner e-con Systems, Denebola (see 3CAM_CX3RDK) USB 3.0 reference design board uses a CX3 controller to interface with the OmniVision OV5640 CMOS image sensor via a 2-channel MIPI CSI-2 interface. It can be enumerated as a camera compatible with the USB Video Class (UVC) protocol and can be used with UVC device drivers in mainstream operating systems. The RDK uses built-in SPI flash and I2C EEPROM to store CX3 firmware and uses JTAG and RS232 interfaces for firmware debugging. Designers can use the kit's GPIO connector to connect to other interface boards to add camera control features such as pan, tilt, zoom, illumination, and sync input/output. In addition, designers can quickly develop an image sensor daughter card, plug it into the Denebola kit and modify the firmware to replace the OV5640 CMOS image sensor with any other image sensor. The E-con also offers an additional camera daughter card as an accessory to the Denebola kit. For more information on the Denebola kit or to purchase, please visit
